This species originally comes from the Greek island of Crete. Characteristic are the compact, spherically rolled bodies with a bluish-grey colour and fine, raised bumps on the back. The animals reach a length of around 1.5 cm and are therefore well suited for keeping in a terrarium.
Temperature: Temperatures between 22-28 °C are ideal.
Humidity: Humidity should be between 60-80 %.
Substrate: A well-aerated, slightly moist substrate of coconut fibre, leaf humus or potting soil is ideal.
Lighting: Armadillo tuberculatus prefers dark, humid environments and should therefore not be exposed to direct sunlight.
Hiding places: Provide plenty of hiding places such as cork bark, moss or foliage to keep the animals safe.
The ornamental isopods eat springtail and isopod food, agate sticks and various leaves.
Armadillo tuberculatus is a slow-growing species and a special feature is that the young animals have small bumps on their chitinous armour, which become less pronounced as they develop.
Armadillo tuberculatus is an easy to care for and aesthetically pleasing isopod species that is suitable for both beginners and experienced terrarium enthusiasts. With the right husbandry and care, you can enjoy these fascinating animals for a long time.
