Pocerias

- The ideal food for geckos, spiderlings, small scorpions and anything that likes small insects.

Ovenfish(Thermobia domestica) - valuable food insects for spiders, reptiles & amphibians

Ovenfish are small, agile insects from the fish family(Lepismatidae). They reach a size of around 7-12 mm and are characterised by their grey-brown to silvery colouring. Originally from tropical regions, they prefer warm, dry environments - temperatures between 30 and 40 °C are ideal.

As food insects, ovenfish are particularly suitable for small to medium-sized terrarium animals such as tarantulas, mantids, young reptiles or amphibians that respond to live, moving prey. Due to their small size and agile movements, they are readily accepted by many animals. Another advantage is that they do not emit any disturbing odours of their own and do not make any noise.

Ovenfish are also comparatively easy to breed in smaller boxes or plastic containers with good ventilation. They are fed starchy materials such as oat flakes, fish food, breadcrumbs or dried yeast. A constantly high temperature and a dry climate are important.

Thanks to their uncomplicated husbandry and high reproduction rate, ovenfish are an interesting addition to the insect food repertoire - especially for keepers who value variety and natural prey behaviour for their animals.
