Phidippus regius "Apalachicola" is a very popular local form of the regal jumping spider – known for its contrasting colours and calm behaviour.
- Origin: Florida (Apalachicola region)
- Size:
- Female: up to approx. 18–22 mm
- Male: smaller, slimmer
- Terrarium: small to medium (e.g. 20×20×30 cm for adult specimens)
- Temperature: 24–28 °C during the day
- Humidity: rather dry with occasional misting
- Furnishing: branches, cork, vertical structures (for climbing!), bright (well lit)
- Eats live insects:
- small grasshoppers
- crickets
- flies / Drosophila
- Prey should have max. body size
Behaviour
- Very tame and active
- Perfect for beginners in keeping jumping spiders
- Hunts by sight → exciting to observe
- Very active, curious jumping spider
