Black Soil is a breeding substrate that has been fermented and composted. It is suitable for giant and stag beetles and their larvae, as well as other invertebrates such as isopods and millipedes. It also serves excellently as an egg-laying substrate and retreat for the adults. Mainly, Black Soil is used as a feeding substrate for hard-to-breed giant beetle species such as Megasoma sp. and Dynastes sp. Black Soil is longer fermented, resulting in the darker coloration. Mix with other substrates (not recommended) at your own risk. Before shipping, Black Soil is slightly dried to reduce weight and make it more storable. Before use, it must be adjusted to the appropriate humidity. During storage and use, care must be taken to ensure very good ventilation, as the decomposing bacteria and larvae/beetles need sufficient oxygen to breathe.
